Magnus Carlsen won the 4th Grand Slam Masters Final in Bilbao, Spain after beating Vassily Ivanchuk 1.5-0.5 in a blitz play-off. The two had finished shared first after drawing their last-round games. On the final day, Vishy Anand beat Francisco Vallejo.

In the Grand Slam Masters FInal Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nalamura narrowed the gap with tournament leader Vassily Ivanchuk to 3 points on Saturday in Bilbao, Spain. Carlsen beat Francisco Vallejo, while Nakamura won against Levon Aronian. Ivanchuk drew with Vishy Anand. Sunday is a rest day.

In the 7th round tournament leader Vassily Ivanchuk suffered a surprising loss at the Grand Slam Masters Final against tail-ender Francisco Vallejo. Both Anand-Nakamura and Aronian-Carlsen ended in a draw, and so Ivanchuk is now still five points ahead of Anand, Aronian, Carlsen and Nakamura.

On Wednesday the second leg of the Grand Slam Masters Final was officially opened in Bilbao, Spain.
