Yesterday the Russian Chess Federation announced the Aeroflot Open 2013. The good news is that it's actually going to be organized. The bad news (to many) is that the format has moved from classical chess to rapid and blitz.

Alexander Morozevich won the Moscow Blitz Championship on Sunday. The Russian top grandmaster, who recently had to withdraw from the Biel tournament and also the Olympiad squad, secured victory with a round to spare. It was the 6th time that Morozevich won the Moscow Blitz.

On Friday a Moscow court acquitted Gary Kasparov of participating in an "unlawful protest" last week outside the Pussy Riot trial. The court didn't trust evidence brought by the Moscow police, and decided to declare the ex-World Champion not guilty. Kasparov might still be charged with "biting a police officer".
