Alexey Dreev scored another rapid success after his victory at the European Championship last week. The Russian grandmaster won the final of the Rapid Grand Prix of Russia which took place 23-24 December 2012. Dreev beat Vladislav Artemiev in the final 1.5-0.5. Laurent Fressinet won the rapid tournament at the World Mind Games in Beijing, China. The Frenchman edged out Hikaru Nakamura on tie-break after both players finished on 5.5/7. In the women's section the gold medal went to Kateryna Lahno, who had the better tie-break after finishing shared first with Hou Yifan, Humpy Koneru and Anna Muzychuk....

Beating Vassily Ivanchuk 4.5-3.5 in the final, Anatoly Karpov won the "Trophée Anatoly Karpov" in Cap d'Agde on Saturday. The 61 year old World Champion clinched the trophy named after himself when his opponent lost on time in the 6th blitz game. In the semi-finals on Friday the two players had eliminated Romain Edouard and Ju Wenjun.
