Corsica, famous for being the birthplace of Napoléon Bonaparte, is also famous for being a land of chess. "L’île de beauté" ('isle of beauty') again hosted a powerful event. This year's rapid tournament in Cap d'Agde was won by Vassily Ivanchuk, who beat Hikaru Nakamura in the final 1.5-0.5 yesterday. In doing so the Ukrainian grandmaster took revenge for his loss in the final last year against the same opponent.

This year's rapid tournament in Cap d'Agde, France has Ivanchuk, Nakamura, Bu Xiangzhi, Le Quang Liem, Polgar, Feller, Edouard, Hammer, Nguyen Ngoc Truong, Karpov (!), Pelletier, the Kosintseva sisters, Lahno, Zhu Chen and Milliet. Yesterday eight of them reached the quarter-finals.
