After three rounds, there are still fifteen players with a 100% score at the Reykjavik Open, including top seeds Anish Giri and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. Wednesday was the day of the gruelling double rounds – Ivan Sokolov decided to play only one, but this wasn't a successful strategy. In round 3 Fridrik Olafsson was too friendly to his opponent.

The Reykjavik Open started on Tuesday with a brief but special opening ceremony, because for the first time the Prime Minister spoke to the participants. On Tuesday, at 16:30 local time (17:30 CET), the 28th Reykjavik Open starts in the capital of Iceland. Last weekend, as a warm-up, a rapid match between China and Iceland was played. The guests won expectedly: the score was 47.5-24.5.
