The organizers of the Biel Chess Festival have announced the list of participants of their main event. This year the six players are Etienne Bacrot, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Alexander Moiseenko, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Ding Liren, and Richard Rapport. The festival takes place 20 July - 2 August in Biel, Switzerland.

Richard Rapport won the 21st Sigeman & Co tournament in Malmö, Sweden on Tuesday. Nigel Short and Ivan Sokolov are tied for first place after five rounds at the Sigeman & Co tournament in Malmö, Sweden. After an early loss, Short recovered and caught Sokolov in first place by defeating Loek van Wely in a fascinating game on Sunday. In general the tournament has displayed some really sparkling chess.

Loek van Wely, Nigel Short, Richard Rapport, Ivan Sokolov, Emanuel Berg, Nils Grandelius, Hans Tikkanen and Jonny Hector are the participants of the 21st Sigeman & Co tournament, currently under way in Malmö, Sweden. After two rounds Sokolov, Rapport and Grandelius top the standings with 1.5 points.

Having already won the tournament, Magnus Carlsen was under pressure against Anish Giri in the final round but escaped with a draw, finishing on 10/13, the same score as Garry Kasparov achieved in 1999. World Champion Vishy Anand lost with Black against Wang Hao and Sergey Karjakin quickly beat Loek van Wely.

Sergey Karjakin beat Wang Hao in the third round of the Tata Steel's A group and is now the sole leader. The Russian grandmaster is the only player at 2.5/3 with two wins and one draw. Magnus Carlsen scored the first win of the day against Loek van Wely and Vishy Anand quickly followed, profiting from a mistake by Fabiano Caruana in timetrouble....
