Yesterday ECU President Silvio Danailov and grandmaster Veselin Topalov finished a small European tour to promote the "Chess in schools" project, a cooperation between the European Chess Union and the Kasparov Chess Foundation. The two visited Vienna, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Faroe Islands and Oslo.

For the first time in his career, Fabiano Caruana (Italy) entered the world's top 10. On the March 1 FIDE rating list, the 19-year-old Italian grandmaster occupies the 7th spot with a 2767 rating. Hikaru Nakamura (USA) re-entered the top 10 and is 6th, with 2771. Magnus Carlsen (Norway) still tops the list with a rating of 2835.
