Again both games of the Zurich Chess Challenge ended in draws, in Sunday's second round. In the encounter between World Champions, Vishy Anand equalized easily with Black against Vladimir Kramnik and at move 41 a draw was agreed in a rook ending. Boris Gelfand versus Fabiano Caruana was more interesting; a 3.f3 Grünfeld got quite sharp although it...

Both games in the first round of the Zurich Chess Challenge ended in draws. Caruana-Anand was a positional Najdorf in which the Italian had a slight edge until close to the time control. After some inaccurate play Anand took over the initiative and won a pawn, but it was still a drawn position. Kramnik-Gelfand was about equal from start to finish...

On Sunday Vishy Anand finished sole first at the Grenke Chess Classic in Baden-Baden. The World Champion won a good game with Black against Arkadij Naiditsch (although he did criticize his move 24....a5) while Fabiano Caruana probably missed a win against Daniel Fridman (65...f4!?) and had to settle for a draw after seven hours of play. Adams-...

In a wild penultimate round with three decisive games, Vishy Anand caught Fabiano Caruana in first place at the Grenke Chess Classic. The World Champion beat Daniel Fridman with White in a Petroff, while Caruana lost with White against Mickey Adams in a Closed Catalan. Georg Meier won against Arkadij Naiditsch in a Bogo-Indian and moved to shared...

Fabiano Caruana is leading by a full point at the Grenke Chess Classic after eight rounds of play in Baden-Baden. The Italian ("half-American, a quarter Italian and a quarter Houdini" – commentator Lawrence Trent) survived a lethal attack on his king and even beat Arkadij Naiditsch, who continues to be part of the only decisive game of the round....

Georg Meier won his first game at the Grenke Chess Classic on Thursday. The German grandmaster beat Daniel Fridman in 60 moves from a slightly better ending. Fabiano Caruana kept his half point lead over Vishy Anand and Arkadij Naiditsch in Baden-Baden as the other two games in round 7 ended in draws. The top encounter Caruana-Anand was a 7.Nf3...

Arkadij Naiditsch is on fire in Baden-Baden. The German number one has been showing fascinating chess so far, and in round 6 it was no different: he beat Daniel Fridman with Black with a wonderful attack on the king. Anand-Adams finished in a draw and so did Meier-Caruana, but there the German missed a win (the tricky 30.Qf4). Caruana kept his...

Vishy Anand won his first game at the GRENKE Chess Classic in Baden-Baden: in round 5 the World Champion refuted an over-optimistic piece sacrifice by Arkadij Naiditsch. At half-time the World Champion is now half a point behind Fabiano Caruana, who drew with Daniel Fridman. Georg Meier and Michael Adams also split the point. Tuesday is a rest day...

For the 4th consecutive day only 1 out of 3 games ended decisively in Baden-Baden. On Sunday Arkadij Naiditsch beat his compatriot Georg Meier in a sideline of the Slav Defence. Fridman-Anand and Adams-Caruana were two highly interesting draws.
