Hou Yifan wint Atatürk International

Pas drie weken geleden werd ze veertien, en vandaag won het Chinese toptalent Hou Yifan het eerste Atatürk International.
We verlieten het toernooi na zes rondes, toen Ekaterina Atalik verrassend leidde met 5 uit 6. In de zevende ronde won Pia Cramling de cruciale partij tegen Atalik terwijl Hou Yifan won van Irina Krush. De twee stonden daarmee gelijk aan kop met 5,5 punt.
In de voorlaatste ronde verloor Atalik opnieuw, van Hou Yifan, die daarmee al zeker was van minstens een gedeelde eerste plek omdat Cramling verloor van Javakhishvili. In de laatste ronde speelde Hou Yifan remise tegen Jakashvili en won zo de eerste Atatürk International Women Masters met een vol punt voorsprong, op Pia Cramling.

One thing that is missing in many of these reports is the money each of the player made. That is always of great interest to me and I don’t understand why in chess reports that is not reported.

Actually what you mentioned was one of the peculiarities of this tournament since there was system of appearance fee payments that were announced beforehand both in ChessBase and our web site.

So, a different report was not needed.
I became aware of the gathering strenght of the Chinese players after reading Liu Wenzhe’s book “Chinese School of Chess,” which I might add is excellent. It is very reinforcing to see the Chinese players achieving such excellent results in international chess.
