¡Estamos en Ciudad de Mexico!

18 September 2007 19:56 PM | Last modified: 20:07

…which of course means ChessVibes is in Mexico City! The flight with KLM – that should have included the Chessbase guys as well but there were problems with their flight between Hamburg and Amsterdam – was fine, if only it included a pretty good Thai vegetarian meal. After arriving at the hotel I had a good night sleep of about ten hours (thanks to the time difference) and after a sunny morning walk in the neighbourhood of the hotel (where I took some pictures) I’m now sitting in the press room full of energy, waiting for the things to come.

Here’s a first small photo report:

Yes, we’re here!

A lot of busy streets, a lot of cars, little really fresh air.

The tournament is held in the Sheraton Hotel Centro Histórico…

…which counts 27 floors. Playing hall, commentary room and press room are on the 4th.

These typical magazine tiendas you’ll find every 15 metres here.

And in between you’ll bump into almost as much shoo polishers.

But most typical perhaps are the local taxi’s (almost all Volkswagen Beetles).

Closeby the hotel: the Palacio de Bellas Artes.

But I also ran into a free exhibition across the street, with Mexican post cards from the years 1910-1950.

…and this one to conclude with – it can’t get more Mexican, can it?

Hasta pronto, for much, much more…
