Analysis Stellwagen-Khalifman

Playing for a win, yesterday DaniĆ«l Stellwagen was surprised by a rare, tactical shot played by Alexander Khalifman in the 6th round of the NH Chess Tournament. This morning I analysed this game, because it’s quite interesting and not all the lines mentioned on the tournament website are correct. After 6 rounds the Rising Stars team has a minimal lead over the Experience team (15,5 to 14,5) and the best players so far are Sergey Karjakin and Artur Jussupow, both on 4 out of 6.

I was following the game live and I was kind of expecting 18.g4 and maybe some kingside action from Stellwagen.
Is this a plan or is it just a weakening move?

It’s certainly a plan to consider although I reckon it even a bit more dangerous than what White was doing in the game.
