Closing ceremony

1 October 2007 11:34 AM CET | Last modified: 11:42 | By Peter Doggers  | Filed under: Reports | Tags:

It’s over. Sunday 30 September was the last day of the world championship in Mexico and on the program was the closing ceremony. Viswanathan Anand is now officially world chess champion and besides the laurel wreath he received a typical Mexican cloth and a big bundle of flowers. ChessVibes presents you a compilation of the best moments from the ceremony, including the complete speech that Anand gave in Spanish, with English subtitles.

They are most probably his sponsors. NIIT is an Indian based IT company. Google them if you want to know more.

Where is Kirsan? Was he again abducted by UFO?

As much as I was rooting for Topalov last year I am afraid that I have to agree with GM Illescas who estimated Kramnik’s chances in the coming match with Anand as 51 to 49.

Gelfand long tie, Kramnik short trousers, a real fashion cat walk :-)

    Dankjewel en muchísimas gracias, Peter.
It was indeed as if we were really there. A chess fan can’t wish for anything more than these articles and videos.
Viva México, the organizers and the players: this was great publicity for our art/game/sport/science :-)

Very much thanks to Peter Doggers for made it happend that everybody on the world can have the feeling to stand live in México-City - like I it did 19 days.
It’s the new world chess standard in documentation and coverage such events. I hope the organizers will understand that we need this people like Peter arround chess promotion - and we have to paid him well - not only honour!
