Comparing lines and desperados – an interview with IM Jacob Aagaard

29 May 2007 12:41 PM | Last modified: 12:43

As already announced, I’m pleased to present you the first of three interviews I did in Porto Mannu last week. This one is with IM Jacob Aagaard, about him living in Scotland (and why not in Denmark), about his chess career (and why he isn’t a GM yet), about his publishing company (and why it wasn’t called Viking Chess), about doing lectures (while being a writer), about being a trainer (which seems to be his second nature) and about what Mikhail Tal is doing on the cover of the Italian version of his latest book…

And then he shows and explains a position from Sämisch-Nimzowitsch, Karlsbad 1923. The game is annotated by Nimzowitsch in Chess Praxis but the famous author misses some fantastic tactics, that can actually be found in the new publication of Chess Praxis by Quality Chess which will be out soon. (Together with the classic My System, Quality Chess will provide a completely new translation of the Nimzowitch book.)

So enjoy the interview, and don’t be surprised if you might have learnt something afterwards!

More information about Aagaard’s books and his publishing company Quality Chess can be found here. Or just start improve the quality of your own chess by ordering e.g. Practical Chess Defence. (And please don’t be upset too much about this little promotional stuff; this is the least I can do in return for Jacob’s great cooperation, now can I?)

CU tomorrow, when we’ll have GM Jonathan Rowson on the show!

Thank you Jacob Aagaard for the great video, it was very interesting! Also good luck to you in your quest to get to the 2500 rating and finally get the well deserved GM title!

Everyone should go out and buy Jacob’s books and also support his chess publishing company!

Hmmmmm, why take with pawn that rook on g6?? Why not first take on f2 with the knight?

    1. … - Nxf2+ 2. Rxf2-Rc1+ and so on, the white king has to come the g-file at some point and then black can play Qxg6 with check. Or am i missing something here?

Anyway, thanks for the nice video!
