Interview Magnus Carlsen

25 February 2008 6:36 PM | Last modified: 2:06

In Morelia, Magnus Carlsen was interviewed after his victory against Topalov (you know, that Alekhine that went so smoothly) by Macauley Peterson and Mig Greengard, for ICC’s Chess.FM. Magnus told about this game, and about the effect of tennis on his chess.

MIG is a lousy interviewer. He keeps sniggering and interrupting the person on the other end with his own silly comments. His questions are not bad for being spontaneous, but he should learn the art of shutting up. Writing clever stuff is one thing, but he has a long way to go as a commentator or an interviewer.

Mig Greengard “writing clever stuff”. You’re joking right?

Magnus is a great guy.Despite being on top at a very young age he is modest. His success reminds me Kasparov’s victory at Banja Luka at the age of 17.

Agree with earlier comment. The interviewer was lousy. Magnus had more to say but keptgetting interrupted. Ask your question and shut up.

mig is a moron. yes he does need to shutup. Sometimes even on ICC, its clear some GM’s chide him gently. Joel Benjamin and Nick D for example.

Being an old man who will never have any of the talent in my whole body that Magnus Carlsen has in his fingernail, I would usually get jealous and upset. But Magnus is so cool! He’s modest, and even seems a bit afraid of cameras. Whatever the case, I like the dude alot, and I’m cheering for him all the way! I think I’m going to put on my Norwegian warpaint when things get going again in Spain! (even though I’m Dutch-American, oh well!). I hope Magnus’s win there in the last round in Mexico helps him going into the next phase.
Yes, Mig is totally spastic in the interviews. He is a really nice guy, so I can’t get to down on him… but he just needs to relax a bit!

I know this is totally off-topic, but I thought it might interest some people here. And hey, maybe in 5 years she’ll beat Magnus! ;)

Got something to say?
