Round 11 with comments

3 March 2008 22:30 PM | Last modified: 13:32

Alexei Shirov has lost his form. He made big errors again today, this time against Topalov, who didn’t have problems finding the decisive combination. Last comer Leko beat Carlsen, who was not satisfied about his preparation and made “several slight errors”. Radjabov-Anand and Aronian-Ivanchuk ended in a draw.

Topalov - Shirov 1-0
Leko - Carlsen 1-0
Radjabov - Anand ½-½
Aronian - Ivanchuk ½-½

    I see a brazilian and a peruvian flag in the picture background, and if I am not wrong, I read Geovani Vescovi. Is there a “B” group or something? Why nothing has been said about this? cheers

    Radjabov - Anand is ridiculous. The agreed a draw only two moves out of opening theory…

  3. Lajos Arpad on 4 March 2008 3:43 AM

    Anand didn’t want to risk his position(as tournament leader), i understand him. But Radjabov shouldn’t be satisfied with a draw with White, even against the Champion.

    Am I the only one to be disapointed by the Internet coverage offered by the organisers themselves. This is the 21st year or so of Linares, and I think they could have made more effort to have a functioning prgram. Even three hours after all the games are over it is still impossible to find the results .Or perhaps I just pressed the wrong button. So I always switch to Cjhess Vibes where i can find the scores and some helpful comments; thx very much once agin.
    The very illuminating press conferences of CORUS seem like a happy dream in retrospect.

    The Leko-Carlsen seemed to be drawish. Was Carlsen trying to go all out for win and stumbled?

  6. Vosuram on 4 March 2008 6:16 AM

    @ tim gluckman: You are not the only one. I mentioned several times the tournament web coverege was given to someone(s) incapable of doing their job.

  7. gogomil on 4 March 2008 8:59 AM

    @tim:i dont even try linares pages. LOok at http://www.crestbook.com/ with comments from GM Shipov ,who had over 2650 few years ago or chessdom.com also with live comments from GMs

    peter: tim gluckman (above) was so right about the press conferences from Corus; that stuff brought the whole coverage to a new dimension. How come there are no ones this time? Still, Chessvibes is the N.o 1 place for following top chess of course :)

    The move 33…d5(??) from Magnus is incomprehensible to me. Why give a pawn just like that?

  10. peter on 4 March 2008 11:14 AM

    @ nep
    Yes, it’s Vescovi, and he’s playing the 2nd Ibero American Championship, held simultaneously during Morelia/Linares. We mentioned it here.

    @ thorex
    They didn’t know about that Tal-Botvinnik game, and the final position is dead equal.

    @ tim, Jarvis
    They don’t do press conferences here, which is one of many examples of this tournament being quite old-fashioned.

    @ Ron
    In this kind of endings, material is not the most important thing. With the pawn sac, Black can activate his rook.

    @gogomil
    Mmm, looks nice, but is there a hidden button which changes the side to English?? My Russian is a bit rusty…..

  12. manyoso on 4 March 2008 20:05 PM

    Well, they need to become less old-fashioned then. The press conferences at Corus were amazing! More like that please!

  13. manyoso on 4 March 2008 20:23 PM

    Topalov just walked into forced mate against Carlsen.

  14. Vosuram on 4 March 2008 20:46 PM

    Round 12, Ivanchuk-Rajsbov: I don’t understand 47.Be6. I have no Rybka or so, but why not 47.Re4, followed by Bg6?

  15. gogomil on 4 March 2008 22:00 PM

    @Menno
    Sorry, thought i saw english version , but its not with the Shipovs comments ,still usefull stuf- http://www.chesszone.org/
