Promising start Morelia/Linares (update!)

16 February 2008 6:35 AM | Last modified: 18:25

Many Sicilians and three decisions: Morelia/Linares has had a promising start. Anand defeated Shirov with Black in a Najdorf, Topalov beat Aronian in a Nimzo-Indian, Leko won as well, against Radjabov who tried a Sveshnikov, and Carlsen-Ivanchuk was a draw (a quiet Najdorf). Now with comments, in new format!

Round 1

Alexei Shirov - Viswanatan Anand 0-1
Magnus Carlsen - Vassily Ivanchuk ½-½
Peter Leko - Teimour Radjabov 1-0
Veselin Topalov - Levon Aronian 1-0

Here are the games with comments. The format is new: now you can scroll and so it’s easier than before to follow the annotations together with the board.

wow, that’s a proper start… three decisive games, many sicilians, lots of blood, no boring positions… too bad I was asleep!

by the way, why did topalov win? isn’t he supposed to lose the first games?

The official website does not work does it?

Not it isn’t. They’ve had problems since the very beginning and actually before that.

La web oficial como siempre, que pena de imagen. El mejor torneo del mundo con una web penosa, otra vez, les pasa todos los años.
En mi web podréis seguir las partidas con comentarios.
Muy Bien Anand con negras se impone a Shirov.

Good idea that new layout with the scrolling!

Idea: put the title like “Carlsen - Ivanchuk” (also) above the boards: after scrolling the moves on the right, you can still see who is who.

It’s always good once in a while for Topalov to start a tournament with a win. If I am not mistaking the first game in Corus was again with Aronian, but he lost there … now the score is even :P. I hope Topalov with be the winner at the end, but I guess the odds are for Anand and Carlsen … we’ll see.

Nice work guys! It’s very pleasant to follow the games that way. Is this the awakening of Leko?

The scrolling is great! A real improvement! I noticed the problems with following the analysis in the situation before, but failed to make the leap of thought that could have led to making a suggestion about it. Alas, it’s not necessary anymore. Thanks very much.
