Morozevich-Shirov analysed

27 December 2006 10:36 AM

They know how to fight in Pamplona. The players keep on going for the opponent’s throat and constantly play for a win. In round 3 and 4 only one game ended in a draw! The game Morozevich-Shirov naturally was one of the games the audience was looking forward to, and for a change, I’m offering a lengthy analysis of that game, including the opening theoretical background.

With ‘a bit of myself and some bits of Rybka’. Meanwhile, the fourth round has already been played as well. These games are added to the file.

>> have a look at the Morozevich-Shirov analysis

Standings after four rounds:

1 MOROZEVICH Alexander 2747 RUS 3½
2 JAKOVENKO Dmitry 2671 RUS 3½
3 BAUER Christian 2585 FRA 2½
4 ILLESCAS CORDOBA Miguel 2620 ESP 2
5 SHIROV Alexei 2720 ESP 2
6 WOJTASZEK Radoslaw 2630 POL 1½
7 LAZNICKA Viktor 2596 CZE ½
8 KORNEEV Oleg 2657 RUS ½

The fifth round, today, will be interesting as well, because the two leaders face each other. Moro has White.
