In de afgelopen dagen werden drie open toernooien gewonnen door drie spelers met een gemiddelde leeftijd van dertien jaar.[/lang_nl][lang_en]They’re coming. The new generation of chess players. In the last few days, three open tournaments were won by three chess players at an average age of just thirteen years old.[/lang_en]

[lang_nl]Om te voorkomen dat je helemaal van je stoel valt, begin ik met de oudste. De Philippijnse schaker Wesley So is met veertien jaar (en zes maanden) al een routinier. Sinds december vorig jaar is hij de jongste grootmeester ter wereld – slechts zes schakers verkregen die titel op nog jongere leeftijd: Sergei Karjakin, Parimarjan Negi, Magnus Carlsen, Bu Xiangzhi, Teimour Radjabov en Ruslan Ponomariov.

Dat zijn GM-titel absoluut geen toeval is, bewees So (2540) de afgelopen week op het Dubai Open. Daar won hij op tiebreak het toernooi met 7 uit 9, na gelijk te zijn ge?ɬ´indigd met GM Merab Gagunashvili, GM Ehsan Ghaem Maghami en GM Li Chao.

In de volgende partij wint hij van de huidige juniorenkampioen en beste speler van Egypte, GM Ahmed Adly:

Het Intomart GfK Open (beter bekend als het HSG Open), dat tijdens (en vlak naast) het Nederlands Kampioenschap werd gehouden, werd gewonnen door de slechts dertienjarige Anish Giri (2401). Ook hij won op weerstand, na gelijk te zijn ge?ɬ´indigd met Mikheil Mchedlishvili.

Daarmee scoorde FM Giri in ?ɬ©?ɬ©n klap zijn eerste grootmeesternorm! Giri woont sinds een dit jaar in Nederland omdat zijn vader hier een baan heeft gevonden.

Zijn partij tegen Ceko vond ik indrukwekkend. Een fraaie modelegel:

De jongste toernooiwinnaar van het stel is de Oekra?ɬØner FM Ilya Nyzhnyk (2397) en die is nog maar twaalf. Hij won zondag het Nabokov Memorial in Kiev, voor GM Yuri Kruppa en GM Vysochin Spartak. Het puntenaantal 8,5 uit 11 was voldoende voor een grootmeesterresultaat.

Hier zijn twee video’s met Nyzhnyk: in de eerste geeft hij een simultaan maar die video is van vier jaar geleden, dus kun je nagaan. In de tweede zie je hem zijn prijs ophalen nadat hij de B-groep van het Aeroflot Moskou Open 2007 had gewonnen.

In this context, fourteen-year-old (and six months) Wesley So from the Philippines is a veteran. During the Dutch Championship, also held last week, the Intomart GfK Open was held in the same playing hall, and was won by Anish Giri (2401) who is only thirteen years old. He won on tiebreak as well, finishing shared first with GM Mikheil Mchedlishvili.

In doing so, Giri, who is an FM, scored his first GM norm! He’s been living in The Netherlands since this year, after his father found a job there.

His game against Ceko was impressive. A model hedgehog:

The youngest tournament winner in this article is the Ukrainian FM Ilya Nyzhnyk (2397) and he’s only eleven (and a half). Last Sunday he won the Nabokov Memorial in Kiyv, before GM Yuri Kruppa and GM Vysochin Spartak. His score of 8.5 / 11 was also enough for a grandmaster result.

The worst thing about these kids? Their endgame skills! Look at this one:

Here are two videos with Nyzhnyk: in the first he gives a simul, but that was four years ago! In the second one, you can see him getting his prize after he won the Aeroflot Moscow Open B group in February 2007.
